چکیده

. This paper outlines a strategy for the active control of the self-excited vibration of machine tools which arises when metal is turned, ground or milled. The requisite sensor and actuators for successful operation of such a scheme are outlined. Examples of the results of typical sensors are illustrated in a brief review of previous work. A simple single degree of freedom model of chatter is simulated, although a higher order system could be included to model the chatter process for control purposes. The effect of using different sensors feedback is also considered. Several control strategies are demonstrated. These show that the vibration can be reduced to less than 10% of its' original value in less than 10 cycles. The implications regarding problems of implementation are discussed Keywords— Chatter Vibration, Active control, Simulation, PDF control, PID control, LQR control, Production engineering, Turning.

Active Control of Chatter Vibrations in a Turning Process Using an Adaptive Fxlms Algorithm

In this paper a 2-DOF lumped mass model is used for dynamic modelling of a turning process. The cutting forces are modelled using predictive machining theory based on the Merchant cutting force model. Cutting parameters such as shear angle are calculated using experimental relations. Variation of cutting angles is also considered. Regarding the governing delayed differential equations, the mode...

Active chatter control for high-speed milling using μ-synthesis

In todays manufacturing industry, high-speed milling plays an important role. The main benefits of high-speed milling over conventional milling are the high material removal rates with relatively low cutting forces. The efficiency of high-speed milling is limited by the occurrence of regenerative chatter. Chatter is an undesired instability phenomenon, causing excessive tool vibrations, reduced...

Investigation and Analysis of Chatter Vibration in Centerless Bar Turning Machine

Chatter vibrations are present in almost all cutting operations and they are the major obstacles in achieving desired surface finish. Chatter vibrations are the self excited vibrations, which has an adverse effect on surface roughness, dimensional accuracy of the machined components. This paper investigates the occurrence of regenerative chatter vibrations in centerless bar turning operation. T...

Experimental evaluation of critical axial depth of cut with magneto rheological damping in end milling process

An end milling process is widely used in fabrication of complex contours and shape parts at high spindle speeds. Many researchers try to investigate one of important aspect, which come across during machining is the self exited chatter vibration which causes severe damage of the tool and quality of the machined surface. The present work is focused on the Magneto-Rheological Damping effect on st...

Galloping and VIV control of square-section cylinder utilizing direct opposing smart control force

An adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller (AFSMC) is adopted to reduce the 2D flow-induced vibration of an elastically supported square-section cylinder, free to oscillate in stream-wise andtransverse directions in both lock-in and galloping regions. The AFSMC strategy consists of a fuzzy logic inference system intended to follow a sliding-mode controller (SMC), and a robust control syste...
